Zululand district municipality has declared war against the killer disease HIV-Aids after scores of people, including parents, lost their lives in the past few years.

The district is at present taking care of an estimated 60 percent of HIV and Aids orphans and widows.

The municipality has also put aside more than R1,6 million to encourage widows and orphans to start their own projects to fight poverty in different wards.

District mayor Zanele Magwaza-Msibi said: "The project is led by princesses and our councillors to ensure that orphans and widows work together to fighting poverty as well as HIV and Aids."

She cited the fact that her district had completed a healthcare centre named after Princess Mandisi to take care of HIV and Aids people.

"The centre tests and offers counseling to people," said Magwaza-Msibi.

A prayer day will be held at the Cecil Emmett Stadium under the Abaqulusi municipality, Vryheid, today.
