The South African Music Awards are not about music only. It is also a platform for designers to parade their rags and for fashionistas to set trends.
Designers will sample their best creations on celebrities to outdo each other at the awards on Saturday. Fashion being a cut-throat business among a few good designers, it will be interesting to see who will come out tops this year.
The word doing the rounds is that socialite, television presenter and businesswoman Ayanda Mbuli will parade her new creations at the awards this year.
When Sowetan asked, Mbuli said it was no secret that she and two other celebrities will be dressed in her new label called Diamond Face Couture.
"DFC will dress TV presenter Bonang and musician Lira. The designs will suit the models' personalities.
"All I can say right now is that Bonang's dress will suit her as a young and vibrant person, while mine and Lira's will also suit our personalities in terms of style," Mbuli said.
Other designers who are expected to dress celebrities at the country's prestigious music awards include Ephraim Madingoana, Stoned Cherrie, Sun Goddess and David Tlale, who recently walked away with a Mzansi Star award in the Best Fashion Designer category.
Just as there will be fierce competition for the celebrated music statuettes, there will also be silent, but vigorous competition among Mzansi's established as well as up-and-coming designers. But who will be tops? For the answer, we will all just have to wait and see what happens on Saturday at Sun City.
