Vus'Umuzi Malinga has to wait until June 12 to fight in the WBC bantamweight title eliminator.
His fight against the vastly experienced Veeraphol Nakhonluang, 39, of Thailand - a veteran of 61 wins, three defeats and two draws - was supposed to take place in Bangkok on May 1.
But Nakhonluang was reported to have injured his hand in training, forcing a four-week postponement.
The winner will challenge WBC champion Hozumi Hasegawa of Japan, who boasts a victory over Nakhonluang in 2006.
Malinga, the WBC International belt holder, is trained by his father Jabulani Malinga at JD Boxing Gym.
He ruled the local ring with an iron fist as national champ for almost three years and chalked up four defences.
Malinga won the WBC International belt in 2003. He defended it successfully in a stunning first-round stoppage of Filipino Joel Bauya in April 2004. But he failed a urine test after that fight and was stripped of both belts.
He bounced back after serving his suspension to reclaim the international belt in 2005 and has defended three times. He has registered 17 wins, 10 by knockout.
Meanwhile, Lucky Lewele's aspirations of winning back the vacant WBC International welterweight belt were shattered as he suffered a lopsided points defeat to Aydin Selcuk in Turkey on Saturday.
The scorecards read 119-109, 118-109 and 118-110. Selcuk is still undefeated while Lewele dropped to five defeats against 25 wins.
On Sunday Ludumo Galada defended the national featherweight title with a fourth-round stoppage of Themba Tshicila at the Orient Theatre.
