FORGET THE RUMOURS

Long-running rumours that Mafikizolo might call it a day seem increasingly to dissolving into thin air.

The multi-award winning duo is still performing together long after Nhlanhla Nciza cut a solo album last year - an that was the main source of the negative specu- lation.

Unfortunately this unexpected side-effect persuaded Theo Kgosinkwe, the second member, to skip releasing an album last year.

That also permitted Nciza to concentrate on promoting the solo album she released through TS Records, in which her husband TK has a stake.

But before flying to London yesterday Mafikizolo's producer, DJ Oskido Mdlongwa, said that the pair was as tight as before and would release an album next year.

"We give our artists an opportunity to release solo albums," Oskido explained.

"Nhlanhla had her chance last year and this time around it is Theo's turn to bask in the solo limelight.

"He will release it this year and has in fact almost completed the album."

Oskido also confirmed that the two are working on an album together and are likely to release next year through Kalawa, their recording label.

The artistes left for the UK last Friday.

On this particular trip, the second to the United Kingdom in 12 months, Mafikizolo will be accompanied by Oskido and his protégé, Tina.

Oskido has been grooming Tina for some time to become a top entertainer and she is certainly growing in stature.

She has released her debut album, Bangiloyile.

The South African artists will perform at two shows, the first on Friday in Batley, Leeds.

They will round up their tour on Saturday at the Stratford Rex in London, a popular venue for South African groups and UK bands.

Last year Mafikizolo's UK trip was spoilt by thieves who mysteriously gained entry to the artists' changing room.

The thugs took all the singers personal possessions, including cellphones and other electronic gadgets.
