Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
Mamelodi Sundowns FC and Bafana Bafana striker Lerato Chabangu might be eyeing Formula 1 race driving as his next career.
The only problem with the 22-year-old soccer ace is that he, according to the police, seems to exercise his prowess not on the Kyalami racetrack but in built-up areas and under the influence of alcohol.
Chabangu was caught at about 3am yesterday allegedly driving under the influence and speeding in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni. He is out omn bail.
This is Chabangu's second brush with the law in less than three months.
Captain Richard Zuma of the Tembisa police said when he was arrested yesterday Chabangu had allegedly zoomed past a police patrol car in Seotloane section, C, Tembisa.
Zuma said a black Audi A3 overtook the patrol car at a very high speed.
"The officers suspected the car was stolen and gave chase," Zuma said. "They managed to stop him and asked for his driver's licence.
"His speech was slurred so the police took him to Tembisa Hospital, where samples were taken to determine the alcohol content of his blood."
Chabangu was charged with drunken driving and released on a R1000 bail and is to appear in the Tembisa magistrates' court today.
In February he was arrested for speeding in the same Audi A3 on the N1 Highway in Johannesburg.
The soccer star was let off the hook on a legal technicality when he appeared in court last week for this incident.
