Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
The Bulwer magistrate's court in KwaZulu-Natal has postponed the bail hearing of a mother and her son, and four other people allegedly implicated in the murder of the woman's husband.
Thembi Mbanjwa, 42, and her son, Khayelihle Mbanjwa, 23, are accused of hiring Sizwe Memela, 28, Sabelo Nzimande, 32, Lindelani Mkhulisi, 29 and Kwazi Memela, 33, to kill her husband Sikukayi Patrick Mbanjwa, 52, two weeks ago.
Mbanjwa was shot several times at close range and died instantly. Police recovered a firearm and arrested the suspects, including the wife and the alleged hitmen.
On Friday the court postponed the case until next Friday to finalise the bail application. About 500 people protested outside the court, demanding the accused be refused bail.
