A 46-year-old priest was shot dead in the Eastern Cape this week, police said yesterday.

The priest, an anti-child abuse campaigner, was found in his house on Wednesday where he lived alone. Police spokesman Mike Fatyela said they found the priest's hired vehicle abandoned at lower Kroza village.

They made inquiries about the vehicle, which led them to the priest's house. Fatyela said police recovered a 9mm cartridge.
