KwaZulu-Natal will be a hive of activity when the national karate full-contact junior tournament takes place at the Old Mutual hall of the University of KZN in Durban tomorrow.
The tournament will be staged under the auspices of Karate South Africa and it will be the organisation's first competition this season.
The event has been divided into two groups with the boys competing in the Under-14s, Under-16s, Under-17s and Under-19s and the girls in the Under-15s, Under-17s and Under-19 categories.
Peter Thage, KSA's spokesman, said they had invited all associations from full-contact styles in the country.
The styles to be represented are from Karate Organisation of South Africa, Shin Kyokushin-kai, Ashihara, Enshen, Extreme Karate, International Federation Karate, Kyokushin Karate Organisation, Karate Union and Royama.
"The purpose of the tournament is to develop the young lions and unearth talent. We appeal to the community of KZN and holiday makers who will be around Durban to come in large numbers and watch karate at its best," said Thage.
He added that karateka are expected to come in throngs this time round because most of them failed to attend last year's event in Cape Town because of financial constraints.
Weigh-in starts at 8am and the tournament at 10am.
