Standard Bank has acknowledged the case of a woman who allegedly had R45000 disappear from her account while her bank card was in her possession.

Andre Jonker, the bank's provincial sales manager in Mpumalanga, said the manager of the Bushbuckridge branch confirmed the case and that investigations were continuing.

"We are aware of this client's case and internal investigations into what happened to her money are going on," Jonker said.

"We are asking all other clients who might have been victims of similar circumstances to sign affidavits stating their cases so we can make sure they are assisted."

The matter came to light when two clients at the Bushbuckridge branch claimed that their money had disappeared.

It was later established that at least six people are in the same position.

Caroline Mdluli, 34, of Ramalema village near Bushbuckridge, said she lost more than R45000.

She received the money from the Government employees Pension Fund after the death of her husband Hendrick Malope in July 2006.

Mdluli said she was shocked when she discovered that her money was no longer in her account and reported the matter to the bank officials and police.

Banty Matlou of Shatale township said: "My bank card was with me all the time, but my money mysteriously disappeared from my account."

No arrest have been made.
