The Nigerian team consists mainly of players who featured in the 26th Africa Cup of Nations under Berti Vogts, who was dismissed by the Nigerian soccer federation for poor results.

The Super Eagles face Bafana Bafana in Abuja on June 1 in the opening match of the qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the Afcon in Angola that same year.

Bafana will be doing some rebuilding of the own, after the appointment of little-known Brazilian Joel Santana as coach, replacing Carlos Alberto Parreira, who has resigned.

Nigeria travel to Vienna for a warm-up game against Austria.

Also in the same group as Bafana Bafana and the Super Eagles for the qualifiers are Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea.

After the game against South Africa, Nigeria take on Sierra Leone on June 7 and proceed to Malabo for the game against Equatorial Guinea on June 14. Their next match will be against Equatorial Guinea in Abuja on June 21.

Amodu officially started his job on Monday.

The former Orlando Pirates head coach is assisted by Nigerian legends Daniel "The Bull" Amokachi and Alloy Agu. The diplomatic Amodu could not be reached for comment but has made it clear he is ready to turn the fortunes of the Super Eagles around.

Big names in the initial Super Eagles squad are Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Obinna Nwaneri, Joseph Yobo, John Obi Mikel, Obafemi Martins, Uche Kalu and Nwankwo Kanu. Others are Kayode Odejaiyi, Elderson Echiejele, Mohammed Yusuf, Christian Obodo, Chidi Odiah, Yusuf Ayila, Haruna Lukman, Taiye Taiwo, Austin Ejide, Vincent Enyeama, Dele Aiyenugba, Onyekachi Apam, Danny Shittu, Osaze Odemwingie, Ike Kalu, Seyi Olofinjana, Obinna Nsofor, Emmanuel Okoduwa, Victor Anichebe and John Utaka.
