A clothing shop was broken into and a number of items stolen.

The incident happened at a store in Modimolle, Limpopo, in the wee hours of yesterday morning.

Police spokesman Superintendent Malesela Ledwaba said yesterday they had launched a search for suspects in connection with the break-in at Pep Stores in the Modimolle town.

He said it appeared the "thieves" gained entry through the roof before stealing about 116 cellphones and bags from the shop.

The value of the stolen items is estimated at R40000, said Ledwaba. He said the break-in and theft was only discovered at around 8am.

"We are now searching for the suspects and hope to make an arrest soon."

Ledwaba said they would also summon the forensic unit to take fingerprints at the crime scene.
