Winners Park's gangling forward Sibusiso "Big Foot" Nhlapo says he is eager to make an impression in the newly assembled Safa national development team, "AmaBinneplaas", by causing a stir in the African Nations Championship.
Nhlapo is in the 18-member squad that will take on Mauritius in a qualifier for the inaugural continental showpiece at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday, May 3.
Said Nhlapo yesterday: "We are ready to conquer the continent in this competition and we have what it takes to achieve that.
"This competition will give us exposure and maybe one will be given a chance in some of Bafana Bafana's matches.
"It is good that the team is mainly made up of [National] First Division players. Mauritius will never know what hit them on the day of the match."
Nhlapo is likely to partner FC Cape Town's veteran forward Marchelino Fransch upfront.
Nathi Lions' Sandile Gumede is another player who will add oomph in front of goal in the South African team.
Their rearguard will be led by Moroka Swallows' Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Ajax Cape Town's Thulani Hlatshwayo and Kaizer Chiefs' Tlou Molekwane.
Mthokozisi Mabaso of University of Pretoria and Ajax's Thulani Serero are among the key players in midfield.
Serame "Rhee" Letsoaka, the squad's coach, believes that the players in the team will not disappoint against Mauritius.
"This tournament by CAF is a wonderful opportunity for players who are on top of their game at their respective clubs, but lack international competition."
He said the team was not the final one. The final squad to play against Mauritius will be announced after their friendly matches against Botswana next week. The squad plays Botswana in the first friendly in Gaborone on Thursday and their second encounter is on Monday.
