'Barker, the only coach for Bafana'

Tebogo Mmethi, 30, of Moletjie at GaMabitsela, believes former African Cup of Nations winning coach Clive Barker is the only person to take Bafana Bafana to great heights.

Tebogo Mmethi, 30, of Moletjie at GaMabitsela, believes former African Cup of Nations winning coach Clive Barker is the only person to take Bafana Bafana to great heights.

"Barker knows the background of Bafana Bafana from the time South Africa was readmitted to the international sporting arena. He should be given the job to take us to the 2010 Soccer spectacle," Mmethi said yesterday.

Mavis Maditsi, 28, of GaNkwana in the Sekhukhune area, said Barker was the man.

"Clive [Barker] has been tried and tested in this field of leading Bafana Bafana. He made the country proud by lifting the African Cup of Nations trophy back in 1996 and, since then, the performance of the team has been on a downward spiral. Let the powers-that-be put aside whatever issue they have against Barker and just offer him the job," she said.

Yvonne Makola, 26, of Tshware village in GaMamabolo, also echoed the same sentiments.

"It is only months before the 2010 World Cup tournament starts and we cannot afford to get a coach from outside of the country.

"Barker should be considered as he is currently the only person to take us to the 2010 showpiece," Makola said.
