Mpumalanga's Ehlanzeni municipality is to hold an agricultural summit focussed on employment creation, fighting poverty and promoting productivity in mining and agriculture.

Municipality spokesman Mabutho Sithole said it had been agreed at the 2006 Local Economic Development and Tourism indaba that the municipality should host the summit.

The meeting will debate and adopt resolutions on how best agriculture could be exploited to effectively contribute to the economy of the district.

Member of the mayoral committee responsible for LED and tourism, Caswell Maluleke, said the Ehlanzeni region was famous for its agriculture but was plagued by unemployment and poverty.
