A double tragedy has befallen the Nota family. Chieftainess Nothemba "Nintoe" Nota and her four-month-old granddaughter Olwam died in a car accident on April 13.

Nota, 50, was born at Ku-Chane at Mount Frere in Eastern Cape.

She attended Sobhede Primary School at Mt Frere before proceeding to Rhode Senior Secondary at Mt Ayliff.

Nota studied for a teacher's diploma at Maluti College of Education and at the time of her death was reading for a Bachelor of Education degree with Unisa, while she taught at Khanyiso Primary School in Katlehong, Gauteng.

Married to Amahlubi chief Mxolisi Nota of Rhode in Mount Ayliff, the royal couple had four children - Litha, Julie, Little and Ncumisa, the mother of Olwam.

Nota played a major role in the Sunday school and church choir at the United Methodist Church of Southern Africa. A fellow congregant, Maphili Sineke, who worked with Nota at KwaNomonde Society in Katlehong, described her as a "shining example" in the church.

Nota and Olwam will be buried at Vosloorus Cemetery tomorrow. The service at KwaNomonde Society at 2916 Roets Drive, Vosloorus, starts at 8am.
