A Limpopo doctor is being sought in connection with the rape of a 16-year-old schoolgirl.
Provincial police spokesman Superintendent Ronel Otto confirmed yesterday that they were looking for a Seshego-based doctor in connection with the alleged rape.
"We have launched a hunt for a doctor who allegedly raped a teenage girl," Otto said yesterday. "A case has been opened against him."
According to a source close to Sowetan, the girl had rented a room at the doctor's house in the township's Zone 2.
The victim is a Grade 10 pupil at a school in Madiba Park, another section of the township.
The doctor, whose name is known to Sowetan, allegedly forced himself on the girl on several occasions. He works at the Lebowakgomo Hospital.
He is alleged to have come home drunk often and raping the girl regularly.
"The doctor would come home drunk and order other occupants of the house out before raping the girl," the source said.
The other occupants, some of whom are related to the doctor, kept quiet because he allegedly threatened to stop supporting them if they spoke to anyone about what was happened in the house.
"The girl told us the doctor became violent towards her during the sexual attacks," the informant said.
"She also said she suspected he was using drugs each time he wanted to rape her."
The girl had told her mother about her ordeal. The mother, he said, had discussed the matter with the doctor's sister with whom she worked but the girl's ordeal continued.
The girl told her teachers after they became suspicious about the change in her behaviour. The teachers told her to go to the police.
Otto said they viewed the allegations in a very serious light and would do everything in their power to arrest the suspect.
By late yesterday, the girl was still in a local hospital undergoing treatment. A district surgeon confirmed that the girl had been penetrated.
