A Limpopo local municipality has been hailed for good service delivery after badly eroded roads leading to the villages were gravelled.

The Maruleng local municipality in the Mopani district has been commended by the communities it serves.

This is after the village's roads, which were seriously damaged by storms during last year's heavy rains, were re-gravelled.

The roads, most of which are used by police vans and ambulances going to clinics in the villages, were seriously eroded, making it difficult for the government to render services to residents.

"Thanks to the Maruleng municipality for the hard work done in changing our lives for the better," said Maria Machethe of Bismack village outside Hoedspruit.

"We really appreciate the good work you are doing."

Other roads that were hard hit by erosion led to Calais, Metz, The Willows and Bismark.

Municipal spokesman John Seokoma said the municipality was busy with public participation on the Integrated Development Planning (IDP) programme in all the villages around the municipal area.

He said the aim of the IDP meeting was to listen to the aspirations and expectations of the communities and how they wanted local government to work for them.

Seokoma said for local government to work better, municipalities should go to the people they serve and listen to them.
