Shabangu critics are hypocrites

South Africans are the worst hypocrites after the Americans. I am seething after the furore over Deputy Minister of Safety and Security Susan Shabangu's orders to police officers to shoot to kill if criminals threaten their lives.

South Africans are the worst hypocrites after the Americans. I am seething after the furore over Deputy Minister of Safety and Security Susan Shabangu's orders to police officers to shoot to kill if criminals threaten their lives.

If critics listened carefully and objectively analysed her statement, they would have agreed with her because the statement was made in the context of the police defending themselves from cold-blooded murderers.

Does any sober South African feel it's fine for the police to be sitting ducks for criminals? Do critics suggest that officers should not have responded to the scoundrels who killed our officers in Jeppe in 2006? Are they saying that officers whose duty is to serve and protect us must not defend themselves? If Shabangu had proposed human rights for criminals, critics would have whined that she is soft on criminals.

We complain about crime, yet throw the human rights book at Shabangu. Perhaps Jody Kollapen and his lot must tell us how they plan to convince young people to join the SAPS if that institution is a one-way ticket to death? The least said about that publicity-seeking idiot, Miles Bhudu, the better.

If I were white, I would emigrate, but I am an African, so I will stay and defend my deputy minister, who I voted for.
