Help from around South Africa has started pouring in for a 30-year-old Mpumalanga woman who was kidnapped and raped by three men for almost a month.
The men held her as a sex-slave in Montrose on the border of KwaZulu-Natal and Free State until she escaped after one of the abusers forgot to close a window in the house where she was kept.
Sowetan broke the story two weeks ago and yesterday morning Ukhozi FM breakfast show presenters Linda S'biya and Sbonga Mngadi invited her into their studio after reading the sad story.
The woman' s ordeal pricked the consciences of several business people and individuals and they offered to help.
S'biya said the woman's plight, as reported in Sowetan, had "moved him".
"We are a nation that cares. We call our programme Ukhozi Cares.
"This woman has now been offered so many jobs by different people. It might be nothing to others, but to her and those in similar situations it gives hope.
"There are people out there who care and are willing to go that extra mile to help other people," S'biya said.
Co-host Mngadi shared S'biya's sentiments.
"I was also deeply touched by her plight when I saw the story.
"As a woman, I felt pain and hurt for her troubles. You often wish such things were just a dream but the reality is that they happen to so many.
"We as a nation need to do something about these crimes as they continue to degrade us as human beings," Mngadi said.
The victim said: "I want to start a fresh, new life and I am grateful to all those who offered to give me a job. It might not be a big deal to them, but to me it is life. It means a future," she said.
Meanwhile, police said they are still investigating the case, but no one has been arrested.
