The acting Mpumalanga police commissioner has suspended "racist" Badplaas police commissioner Cornelius Potgieter.
Police spokesman Sibongile Nkosi said this action was taken after an unannounced visit to Potgieter's house by the province's portfolio committee on safety and security.
The committee found that racism was rife at the station and that Potgieter had taken some of the station's exhibits to his house.
Makhanya Ojowuro, who is acting for Commissioner Afrika Khumalo who is on leave, suspended Potgieter.
"Superintendent Winnie Mavuso was appointed acting station commissioner until further notice," Nkosi said.
The commissioner's office sprung into action after police officers sent a memorandum to provincial police management complaining about the situation at their station.
In the memorandum, black officers accused their white colleagues of practising apartheid-style segregation.
