With more than 1200 different passenger vehicles and 294 different light commercial vehicles available to the local car-buying public, it can be a bit of a minefield when it comes to selecting what is right for you.
Brand loyalty, cost, reputation and resale value all play a role, but an added gauge not to be ignored is the results of the SynovateQuality Awards for the motor industry, which were released on Monday.
The survey, which is conducted with 50000 new car buyers, looks at various facets of the motor industry and is endorsed by the Department of Trade and Industry. It's a pity, though, that notall motor manufacturers arepart of the survey. Tata, Hyundai and Kia, among others, haveonce again chosen not to participate.
Good news for the consumer is that service levels continue to rise.
In 2000 the average score for participants was 86,9percent, whereas today it has reached an all-time high of 91,7 percent.
"Scores are getting closer and the competition for top spot is intensifying. As scores get high, it becomes more difficult to improve but the manufacturers and their dealer networks continue to strive for, and reach, the highest levels," Richard Rice, client services director at Synovate, said.
