Maximum driving pleasure

Nothing makes me more miserable than an early day, especially having to get up at 3.30am to be at the airport by 5am.

However, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG is a car that is worth waking up early for.

We were still sleepy and grumpy when we landed at Bloemfontein Airport last week. A few steps outside the small airport revealed something extraordinary.

Eight stunning Mercedes-Benz C63 AMGs were parked outside the airport waiting to help wake us up.

Suddenly, we all woke up, the mood changed as we raced from the airport to Phakisa Raceway in Welkom.

Like other AMGs, the new C63 AMG is not just a performance car, but beautiful and comfortable.

At high speeds, the German monster held on to the tar so well. It is easy to reach over 200km/h without feeling out of control.

It is this aspect that makes it a pleasure to drive AMGs. The C63 AMG is not like your typical performance car that makes you work hard to achieve results.

It provides comfort while at the same time delivering the sporty performance.

In just over an hour, we reached Phakisa, where all the fun began. The race track and the new C63 AMG were like coffee and milk.

The engines started and behind the wheel were the media. It was a busy day with other 63 AMGs joining in the battle.

Mercedes-Benz South Africa brought other 63 AMGs to make the day even better.

The driving was harsh in a safe environment. But the surprise of the day was when the new C63 AMG F1 safety car joined the launched and the other cars.

One lap in that car can make you sleep for two days.

Behind the wheel sat the F1 safety driver Bernd Maylander, supposedly the most experienced driver in the world.

The new C63 AMG is one car that any enthusiast would love to take for a spin on a quite Sunday morning. It does not matter whether or not you are a Mercedes-Benz fan, the very appearance of this new sporty car raises expectations.

The bonnet, with its prominent power domes, is the first indication of the exceptional drive system of the new AMG high-performance car. Under the bonnet lies an independently developed AMG 6,3-litre V8 engine, which generates 336kW and 600Nm of torque.

This high-performance eight-cylinder engine has the perfect partner in the form of the AMG speed shift plus 7G-tronic transmission.

Equipped with AMG aluminium steering-wheel shift paddles and three driving modes, the seven-speed automatic transmission allows a decidedly sporty or more comfort-oriented style of driving according to the driver's preference.

Pressing a button next to the selector lever is sufficient to activate the desired driving programme. This sporty is priced at R699000.
