Young Lions continue to be kingmakers

When Fikile Mbalula, the former president of the ANCYL, announced that he would prefer Julius Malema to succeed him, many did not think it would happen.

When Fikile Mbalula, the former president of the ANCYL, announced that he would prefer Julius Malema to succeed him, many did not think it would happen.

Remember, it was also Mbalula who predicted that Comrade Jacob Zuma would become president of the ANC.

The young but militant Malema, from Seshego, who happens to be a staunch supporter of Zuma, is undoubtedly faced with the daunting task of uniting the ANCYL.

Despite the protest by the supporters of Saki Mofokeng, the ANC is unlikely to overrule the results.

In a few months time, the provinces will hold their conferences to elect new leaders. As usual, the ANCYL has already expressed their preferences. Their strategy is to get their favourite candidate into a leadership position.

The outcomes of the last SACP and Polokwane conferences prove the success of this campaign. Are we likely to witness the continuous success of this campaign during the coming provincial elections?

Will Malema's election victory fire up the campaigns of those vying for positions in the provincial elections?

Mbalula will assume directorship of the ANC's 2009 election campaign and Malema will obviously become his right-hand man.

Anyway Peter Mokaba did it before; and the opportunity presents itself again for the young warriors to preserve his legacy.
