Nothemba Madumo, the new host of the radio slot vacated at Metro FM by Kgomotso "KG" Moeketsi, pictured, says she accepted this role because she believes that she will add value to jazz listeners' experience. KG has joined radio 2000, another SABC radio station.

Speaking to Sowetan yesterday, Madumo also revealed she accepted the position reluctantly because her hands were full at the moment.

Madumo said she left e.tv in December to assume an executive position at the SABC.

"I left e.tv's Morning Edition in December last year to join the SABC as an executive manager for special projects in the strategy department.

"I was initially too reluctant to accept the radio job because for a long time I wanted to be off air. And because I have been on air for a long time, people wrongly assumed that it was the only thing I did in life, yet I have worked behind the scenes in broadcasting," Madumo said.

She was now working on the SABC strategy for the 2010 World Cup but would find time for a yet to be named jazz slot on Sundays from 6pm to 9pm.

"The Metro FM job is something I could do on the side simply because of my love for the jazz genre. I think I will add value to the listening experience of lovers of jazz music," she said.
