The trial of six Krugersdorp Prison warders, who allegedly murdered three prisoners, is expected to resume at the Johannesburg high court today.
Petrus Mkhwanazi, 44, Regan Rudidge, 30, Sandile Kleinbooi, 44, Cleopas Mfuzi, 34, Simphiwe Shabangu, 31 and Donald Letsoamotse, 30, are facing three counts of murder and one of attempted murder.
They are out on R1000 bail each.
The warders allegedly beat to death Thandanani Nxumalo, 27, Zamubuntu Maqhina, 35, and Simphiwe Tshabalala, 28. Brian Martin survived with injuries.
The incident was a result of an alleged dispute between two gangs known as the 28s and the Big Five in the prison.
In October 2007 the warders called those who were suspected of fuelling the violence into a warder's office. There they were allegedly beaten up.
The four men were later taken to the Leratong Hospital. Tshabalala was pronounced dead on arrival and Nxumalo and Maqhina died two hours later.
