The South African Communist Party says it will not rest until everyone involved in the killing of the party's former secretary, Chris Hani, is brought to book.

Addressing hundreds of supporters during a march to the Polokwane police station yesterday, the party's secretary of its youth wing - the Young Communist League - Buti Manamela said it was time the truth about the killing of Hani was revealed.

He said they were aware that there was more to Hani's killing that met the eye.

Hani was assassinated on April 10 1993. Polish national Janusz Walus and Clive Derby-Lewis are serving life sentences for Hani's assassination. The two have failed in their bid to get a presidential pardon.

"At the time of Hani's assassination a hit list was found in Derby-Lewis' wife's possession," Manamela said. "Of grave concern is the fact that the woman was not pursued."

Manamela called on President Thabo Mbeki to give Hani the highest honour for his role in the liberation of the country.

"There are individuals in this country who enjoy the benefits of being recognised by Mbeki despite their having achieved little or nothing to bring the country to be where it is today," Manamela said. "This is a shame,"

He also called on the government to reinstate subsidies on staple food in view of the escalating costs of food and energy products.

"We also make a call for the re-nationalisation of Sasol," he said.

He said an energy summit should be convened as a matter of urgency.
