Alleged hitman Nkosinathi Langa appeared briefly in the Johannesburg magistrate's court on Friday charged with attempting to murder two armed response security guards.

Langa, 24, of Dube Hostel, Soweto, is charged together with Bafana Dubazane, 27, of Alexandra.

Dubazane was not able to appear in court because he is still in hospital.

"The reason for the shoot-out is not known but we suspect it was related to taxi violence," said Inspector Richard Munyai.

Magistrate Albert Roux postponed the case to next Monday.
