"If there is a SADC (Southern African Development Community) meeting confirmed by Zambia, President Mugabe will definitely be there," deputy information minister Bright Matonga said.

"There is nothing unusual about his attendance. SADC has obviously come under a lot of international pressure over the Zimbabwe elections and needs to be briefed about what is happening here."

Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa said on Wednesday that he was to host a summit of leaders from the 14-nation SADC tomorrow to discuss Zimbabwe, where the results of a March 29 presidential election are still to be announced.

Meanwhile, South Africa has expressed its concern about reports of farm invasions in Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers' Union president, Trevor Gifford, met with South African diplomats in Harare last week and said that farmers were again being evicted from their land by so-called war veterans, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Aziz Pahad said yesterday.

"The problem here, as he identified it, is that most of the farmers are about to harvest their crops and as a result Zimbabwe is at risk of losing food worth millions of dollars," Pahad said. - Sapa-AFP
