Police have arrested a 38-year-old mother of two for child neglect.

Jeppe police said officers patrolling the area of Troyeville in Johannesburg at about 11am on Wednesday were stopped by resi- dents who told them that a three-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl were crying inside a locked house.

They had apparently been left alone.

The children were found clinging onto the burglar door. They were dirty and hungry and there was no food in the house, police said.

Jeppe police spokesman Richard Munyai said: "The door of the house was broken down by police who then took the children out and bought them fruit."
