Chester Gumbo hopes to get 300000 Zimbabweans to the polls if President Robert Mugabe manages to enforce a run-off election for the presidency.
Gumbo, an engineering consultant, said the venture would entail organising 1000 buses to transport at least 300000 displaced Zimbabweans from South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana and Zambia.
"We saw that Zanu-PF was already beginning to use violence to intimidate the people into not voting. So we decided to mobilise Zimbabweans outside the country to get as many as possible to return home and vote for the Movement for Democratic Change," Gumbo said.
The businessman said the operation would cost him and his anonymous partners well over R80million.
"The money would go towards hiring 1000 busses to transport at least 75000 people from each of the four countries.
"This will benefit South Africa in the long run because the change that we will bring will mean gainful employment for all," Gumbo said.
He said the response from exiled Zimbabweans in these countries had been encouraging.
Gumbo and his partners have apparently been handing out pamphlets proposing "the great exodus home".
The Zimbabwean Electoral Commission is yet to release the results of the presidential elections that took place on 29 March. Zanu-PF lost parliamentary elections to the opposition for the first time since taking power in 1978.
Meanwhile, the results of the presidential race are yet to be announced.
