An intense manhunt has been launched for four teenage hooligans terrorising residents of Siyabuswa in Mpumalanga.

"If robbery victims resist, they are shot," Captain Leonard Hlathi, of the Mpumalanga organised crime unit, said.

The alleged thugs, aged between 17 and 19, allegedly shot and killed a reserve constable in Siyabuswa on April 1 and also shot and wounded a villager in neighbouring Ga-Phaahla at the weekend. They are also alleged to have robbed several other residents of cellphones and other valuables, Hlathi said.

He said that on the evening of April 1, reserve sergeant Aerial Thulani Sibisi, 34, was "shot several times as he was escorting his friend home in Siyabuswa B at about 9.30pm".

Hlathi said the gangsters took the deceased reservist's cell phone, a Samsung E250, and fled.

Hlathi said that about 10 minutes earlier, the same gang had robbed two people of their cell phones, in separate incidents, in the same street where Sibisi was gunned down.

No arrests have been made.
