The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal has denied that Makhosazana Dumisa, one of 18 people who defected from the party to join the National Democratic Convention (Nadeco) in Kokstad, was their chairman.

Mntomuhle Khawula, provincial chairman, said although he knew Dumisa she was not their district chairman.

"I know her, but she was not even an active member of a branch, let alone a district," said Khawula.

The 18 defectors left the party and joined Nadeco at the weekend.

But Dumisa insisted she was a chairman. She said she was not surprised that the IFP was now disowning her. She said she left the party because they felt excluded by the management.

She accused the IFP of having no genuine interest in Kokstad members or ordinary residents.

"Although I was a district chairman, I was clueless about what was happening within the party. I was not contacted or informed of anything, be it about women, youth or national issues," said Dumisa.

She said it had seem as if no one cared about the members, who are Xhosas.
