Many people, especially professionals, are so busy that they do not have the time to fix things in the home - and this is where the handyman come in.

Many people, especially professionals, are so busy that they do not have the time to fix things in the home - and this is where the handyman come in.

Unlike in the old days when a woman would work in the house, nowadays both husband and wife work outside the home. Although they have little time, they have the money to pay for services offered by a handyman.

Working people don't have time to attend to domestic chores because by the time they get home it is late and they are tired. Then they have the children's school work to attend to.

With the new political dispensation in 1994, it became easier for South Africans to access loans and buy their own homes.

But houses are much more complicated than they were in the past. They have solid state thermostats, high efficiency furnaces, insulated windows with Argon gas and steel doors, among other things.

It is much more difficult to fix things that break even if one has the time. Because of the complicated nature of household items, one needs basic skills.

What this means is that over half of the total re-modeling business has been left to the small, non-professional contractor or the handyman. What was not done by the handyman in the past was accomplished by the do-it-yourself market, but with the do-it-yourself market dying, there are enough jobs for handyman.
