Fan parks in popular joints

Soweto's Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown is among the three popular joints identified by the City of Johannesburg as fan parks for the 2010 World Cup.

Soweto's Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown is among the three popular joints identified by the City of Johannesburg as fan parks for the 2010 World Cup.

The other two venues, where thousands of people are expected to flock to, are the Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown and Innes Park in Sandton.

Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, a mayoral committee for community development member, also announced that they were going to establish 2010 forums in all the areas.

Mayathula-Khoza said the city has been involved in a series of workshops with residents and community structures to deal with World Cup plans and progress.

During the workshops, residents raised concerns on the need to inform them on the existing tourism, accommodation opportunities, recruitment and training of volunteers.

Regarding business opportunities, residents urged the city to identify and communicate business opportunities both for established businesses and SMMEs.

As part of the legacy projects of the World Cup, Jozi is rebuilding the Orlando Stadium, upgrading Dobsonville and Rand stadiums to be used as training venues.
