Frank Maponya

Limpopo's own Mother Teresa will soon celebrate an unforgettable milestone in her lifetime when she receives the Order of the Counsellor of the Baobab.

President Thabo Mbeki is expected to bestow the honour on Beka Ntsanwisi at the Union Buildings on April 22. Ntsanwisi, 39, will receive the award for reaching out to the needy communities in Limpopo.

She received a letter of invitation from Reverend Frank Chikane, the director-general in Mbeki's office.

According to the letter Ntsanwisi will be honoured for her outstanding contribution to youth development and for bringing progress to remote villages of the province.

The multi-award-winning presenter at a Polokwane-based radio station said yesterday she was looking forward to receiving the award.

"It has always been my passion to work hard and improve the standard of living of our communities," Ntsanwisi said. "The award will motivate me to continue with the improvement of the lives of our people."

Among other achievements Ntsanwisi won the 2005 ShopriteCheckers-SABC2 Woman of the Year award in the social selfare category.

She also won the Limpopo Achievers' Award in the community builders category in the same year, before going on to win it in the national competition, where she was competing with contestants from Mozambique, Zambia and Namibia.

She has also had two books written about her, which are currently prescribed for schools in Limpopo

They are titled Hi nwa hi kolwa and A Rose Among the Thorns.
