ZCC priest to face heat

The Zion Christian Church (ZCC) priest who ordered security guards at Moria to lock an advocate in a tiny shack for two days could be in hot water for violating his human rights.

The Zion Christian Church (ZCC) priest who ordered security guards at Moria to lock an advocate in a tiny shack for two days could be in hot water for violating his human rights.

The Human Rights Commission (HRC) in Limpopo said yesterday that it would meet ZCC leaders on Tuesday and could summon the priest if the church failed to cooperate.

"We have set up a meeting with the ZCC which advocate Mphafolane Koma will also attend," said Jeffrey Nkuna, provincial HRC manager.

The commission sprang into action after Koma wrote to the HRC claiming that his rights had been violated while attending a church service at ZCC headquarters.

Koma wrote: "They locked me in a shack and put rocks on a fire. When they were red hot they threw coffee on them to increase the smoke which I inhaled. When I wanted to use the toilet I was chained and paraded in front of church members, some of whom are my clients."

Koma has demanded R2million from the church in compensation.

Koma had been delegated to ask why two church members had been detained . Instead of getting a reply he was locked up with them. - Sowetan Reporter
