A KwaZulu-Natal woman was stabbed in her home by robbers who fled with a few appliances and clothing yesterday.
Zanele Sibisi, 26, of Boom Street in Pietermaritzburg, is recovering in hospital after four armed men attacked her.
Sibisi was asleep in the room she is renting when she was woken up by the sound of people breaking into her room.
When she opened her eyes, four men were already inside her room.
The robbers tied her up with a rope and then proceeded to take the appliances, which included a television and a DVD player. They also took some clothes.
Police spokesman Henry Budhram said Sibisi told them how she had tried to escape from the robbers.
He said she managed to untie herself and tried to run away.
But the men caught her, pinned her to her bed and stabbed her twice in the chest and once in the face.
"Investigations at the scene have established that entry to the house was gained by forcibly bending the burglar guard and kicking the door open," he said.
Budhram said a case of housebreaking and another of attempted murder have been opened and investigations are under way.
Anyone with information that might assist the investigation is asked to phone Constable Amith Budhram on 072- 349-8707.

Muzi Maphumulo, 17, from the township's L section was attacked in a tuck shop in the area.

"We cannot name the suspect [until he has appeared. in court].
"He is known to us and is expected to be arrested soon," Ndlovu said.
