Former Lesedi FM presenter Thuso Motaung is demanding that the asset forfeiture unit return his millions of rands.

"We are suffering while our money is locked up." he says. "It took them one day to freeze our accounts but now they have to reopen them they tell us to wait. We can't afford that luxury."

Motaung says his family is desperate for money since they are building a new house and their children attend private schools.

His assets, worth R15million, were attached by the Scorpions in March last year after Motaung, his wife Mamontha and business partner Joshua Ramme were accused of defrauding the SABC of R34million between 2004 and 2006.

But the three were acquitted in the Johannesburg commercial crimes court two weeks ago.

Motaung says the curators told them to be patient because they are calculating how much money will be refunded.

Mamontha says "It is painful to live on hand-outs while you have your own money but cannot access it."

She says it is difficult to live a normal life when you do not know where your next meal is coming from.

The couple's lawyer, Zola Majavu, says it is just a matter of time before the Scorpions unfreeze the Motaungs' accounts.

"We have raised the matter with the curators. It is now a matter of administration," he says.

He also says the asset forfeiture unit will have to pay for the property that was damaged while in its care.

Motaung says he wants interest on his money because it would have accumulated interest if it were kept in a bank.

He refuses to disclose how much had been frozen, but property estimated to be worth R8million, including five luxury cars and furniture, three houses - one in Diepkloof, Soweto, another in Bloemfontein and yet another one in Mossel Bay - was returned on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Motaung exclusively told Sowetan that he would be releasing a DVD soon containing "all the affidavits made by my colleagues who went behind my back and spread lies about me".

He is also planning to release a series of five CDs to spill the beans.
