Entertainment is in store for the community of KwaThema and surrounding areas when the Selope Thema Games Against Crime semifinals take place at KwaThema Stadium on Saturday.

The yearly tournament has been popular since it started and people have always flocked to the local sports complex to support their teams.

The finals will be played at the same venue on Sunday.

Coordinator Seth Twala said: "We have been getting great support from the community of KwaThema and neighbouring townships.

"We hope they will still continue to come in large numbers this week to witness the best teams battling for glory."

He further said they acknowledged the support from the Gauteng department of sports, recreation and arts, who are financing the competition.

Pule Malefane, convener of the committee, said he was very impressed that there were no hiccups throughout the three-week tournament.

"The latest statistics I have been getting, especially from the police, show that the tournament has contributed tremendously in terms of reducing crime."

The first prize in the seniors' category is R50000. The runners-up and third-placed will receive R30000 and R20000 respectively.
