Parastatal Eskom has started with plans to deal with the ongoing irritating problems of power failures ahead of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

The electricity utility has established a 2010 World Cup unit to attend to all matters that will ensure the tournament is not affected by load-shedding.

Eskom has already made a guarantee to South Africans that there will be no power disruptions during the 2009 Confederations Cup and the World Cup. More than 2000 electricity megawatts are required for the World Cup, a soccer spectacle which is expected to attract more than 500000 visitors to the country.

The utility's 2010 head John Dladla said resources would be allocated to ensure there were no power cuts during the tournament.

Dladla made a presentation at the recent World Cup LOC board meeting.
