Unilever has warned about a scam in which people are called on their cellphones and told they have won a Knorrox competition.

They are then asked for their banking details. Consumer affairs manager for Unilever, Christine Broadhurst, said several people had called the company to find out how they could claim their prize money "won in the Knorrox competition".

She said the company was not running a Knorrox competition and urged people not to disclose their banking details or ID numbers.

One man received a call that he had won R15000 and a food hamper. He was asked to redeem the prize from a Mr Khumalo at Ukhozi FM.

He spent R200 on transport from Pietermaritzburg to Durban only to be told there was no Mr Khumalo at the radio station.

People can call the Unilever toll-free number 0860-33-14-41 if they get suspicious calls.
