Inspector Michael Read said five men, three of them armed, entered the Smilesons shop in Phoenix on Tuesday evening and held staffers at gunpoint.
"They took an undisclosed amount of cash and fired a shot while fleeing. The bullet struck a bystander on the side of her stomach," he said.
The woman was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition.
