The taxi industry, which generates billions of rands in revenue each year, should be taken seriously by the government.
Concerns raised by the South African National Taxi Council over the government's R7,7 billion taxi recapitalisation programme should have been resolved long ago had there been regular consultations.
Santaco, which has threatened to pull out of the plan, claims there is no clarity on the government's subsidisation programme. The 160000 members are also concerned about the price of the new vehicles and the taxi ranks.
We urge the parties to meet urgently and iron out their differences to make this programme a success.
Time is running out.
