It will be in the form of building more than 100 soccer fields for previously disadvantaged communities throughout the country.
The project is funded by the Ministry of Economic Development with Deutsch Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit and the German soccer federation as partners.
The project will see ordinary South Africans also having access to decent soccer fields.
Safa, the LOC, and Department of Provincial Affairs and Local Government are also involved in this project, promoting youth development for both boys and girls.
"Some of the clubs travel as much as 50km to host their official games because of lack of proper facilities," said Dan Moyo, the 2010 World Cup Government Unit acting head.
"The project will start with more than 100 fields in various communities. They will have artificial grass and will also be well looked after in terms of maintenance. The Germans will be building the soccer fields in areas such as Khayelitsha, Alexandra, Kwa-Mashu, Winterveldt, Mmabatho, Polokwane, Galeshewe and Mangaung.
"It will be basic grounds that will be assessed every three to four months by experts in the field of maintenance.
"The plan will be to identify another 30 to 50 residential areas where additional fields will be built," said Moyo, adding that they will also groom school teachers as coaches.
"We need to actively involve the teachers, we know that in the past our teachers played a significant role in the development of sports in SA."
