Pitch: PSL, Safa join in

The 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee has decided to include representatives of Safa and the PSL on the proposed pitch monitoring committee.

The 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee has decided to include representatives of Safa and the PSL on the proposed pitch monitoring committee.

Dennis Mumble, the LOC's chief competitions officer, said: "We're bringing Safa and PSL on board as part of our legacy projects for the World Cup."

Three experts will also be added to the committee, but the final decision on the number of people serving on it will be decided by the LOC executive on April 3.

"We have already prepared pitch management guidelines that have already been sent to the host cities, it deals with the type if grass we will be using," said Mumble.

"We will know that the grass in the coast will be different from the one inland. The plan is to ensure that we offer pitches of the best quality for the World Cup.

"The guidelines also cover the treatment and maintenance of the grass and equipment that will be used for such a purpose.

"It also deals with how to identify problems in general," said Mumble, who is working round the clock to put systems in place for a successful World Cup.

For the training facilities for the World Cup, Mumble said: "We will provide the best quality grounds."
