Vaal Rand police arrested two armed men and possibly thwarted a planned cash-in-transit heist at a Orange Farm filling station yesterday morning.

Spokesman Captain Keke Motsiri said police were tipped off by the owner of the filling station who said there was a vehicle parked on his premises with four suspicious-looking occupants.

"The owner tipped us off about a blue VW Polo with four men, two of whom were frequently getting in and out of the car and going into his convenience store," he said.

Motsiri said what made the owner more suspicious was that he was expecting a cash van to collect money from his business. But the police were already there when it arrived at about 10am.

"When the men saw the police, the two outside the car fled on foot. The two who were inside were cornered and arrested," he said.

One of the men in the car was sitting on an unlicensed firearm.
