More people watch Generations than soccer games hence the SABC's decision to screen "live" games at 10pm.

This was the response by the SABC's spokesman, Kaizer Kganyago, when approached by Sowetan to shed light on the issue. This following information that the public broadcaster will only show the Bafana Bafana versus Paraguay international friendly game (scheduled for 7pm) tonight at 10pm.

"Advertising space had already been bought to beam these prime time shows. For us to change our programming we need to consult with those advertisers.

" It's a fact that more people watch Generations than soccer games as indicated by numerous surveys conducted over the years,' said Kganyago.

Efforts to elicit comments from the office of Minister of Sport, Makhenkisi Stofile, were unsuccessful at the time of going to press.

However, the ministry's media liaison officer, Lerato Mogorosi promised that the minister will respond to the e-mail Sowetan sent to him in order to add it to our story.

But when contacted 30 minutes later, Mogorosi said: "I did not know you wanted the response today.

"Anyway, the minister will respond tomorrow (today) morning.''
