Reigning IBO welterweight champion Isaac "Angel" Hlatswayo, jets out tonight to Australia for a rematch with Robert Medley.
The fight will be promoted by local promoter Rodney Berman of Golden Gloves Promotions at the Croatian Club, Punchbowl, New South Wales, Australia, on April 4.
The first clash took place at Panthers Leagues Club, Penrith, New South Wales, Australia on October 12 last year. Hlatswayo won it in a lopsided points win. Two judges scored it 109-118 and 108-119.
That was Hlatswayo's 27th win (nine KOs), a loss and a no contest. It was also the 30-year-old tough as nails fighter' s first fight under trainer Nick Durandt.
Medley, who was down for a count in round five, tasted defeat against 19 wins (13 KOs). Medley, 26, who outpointed Kaizer Mabuza for the IBF Australasian title in February last year, bounced back in March and stopped Dondon Sultan in the fourth round to retain his title. Berman said Ricky Hatton was their target.
"For a while it looked like we'd secured the fight for May 24 in Manchester but then came the quibbling that eventually resulted in Hatton's brother being mentioned as a more likely opponent," said Berman.
"That would also have suited Isaac fine but after being kept on hold over the past two weeks we've decided to accept an offer for Hlatswayo to return to Australia."
Meanwhile, Golden Gloves Promotions' publicist Terry Pettifer announced a busy schedule for his company which he said would start on April 4.
"Don't forget that Cassius Baloyi will be chasing IBF junior lightweight honours next month."
