The race for the presidency of the ANC Youth League is hotting up.

The race is on between the league's Limpopo secretary Julius Malema and the Free State's organising secretary Saki Mofokeng.

The ANCYL is expected to elect its new national leadership at a conference in Mangaung in two weeks' time.

Mofokeng won the nominations for the presidency during a conference in Welkom, Free State, at the weekend with a 27 margin over Malema.

Mofokeng received 150 votes while Malema got 123 votes during the nominations.

Malema, on the other hand, enjoys the support of four provinces.

Critics said Mofokeng's presence at the conference, which was held in his home province, gave him an advantage.

The ANCYL conference is scheduled from next Wednesday to Sunday in Mangaung in the Free State.
