The body of a man who was assaulted and then stoned to death was discovered in Orange Farm, in the Vaal, yesterday morning.

Police spokesman Captain Keke Motsiri says the man is believed to be aged between 20 and 30.

"Residents in the area where the body was found said they heard noises of a man screaming at about 2am but were too afraid to go and look," Motsiri says.

He says the police suspect the motive for the killing was robbery because the man's shoes were missing.

Police have opened a murder docket.

Meanwhile, in another incident in Orange Farm, police discovered the decomposed body of a 23-year-old woman on Friday morning.

Ntombifuthi Mkhwanazi's body was found dumped in an open field. Her hands were tied behind her back with a rope.

Mkhwanazi was wearing black cycling shorts and a brown jersey. Her shoes were missing.

"Residents were alerted by the heavy stench," Motsiri says.

He says Mkhwanazi went missing from her home two weeks ago and was reported missing at the police station last Tuesday.

Her family said she was last seen in the company of her former boyfriend.

"Her ex-boyfriend is still on the run," Motsiri says
